Hospitals in Islamic Civilization

Imagine a nation where every hospital is free of cost irrespective to your status, caste, gender, religion, nationality. A multi-speciality hospital providing you a clothes, well furnished wards, delicious food, specialized doctors, that too free of cost. Not just this even giving the patient money and food as a compensation for being out of work during his hospital stay. Isn't it mind-blowing?? This is what hospitals were in the Islamic Civilization. In early medieval where Europe belief that illness is supernatural, uncontrollable, incurable. Muslims took completely different approach because of the saying of prophet Muhammadï·º, “God has sent down the disease and he has appointed cure for every disease, so treat yourself medically”(¹) Mobile Dispensaries The first known Islamic care center was set up in a tent by Rufaydah al-Aslamiyah r.a during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammadï·º. Famously, during the Ghazwah Khandaq, she treated the wounded in a separ...

From Virtue to Vanity: The Fall of Modesty

"Modesty, sometimes known as demureness, is a mode of dress and deportment that intends to avoid the encouragement of sexual attraction in others. The word modesty comes from the Latin word modestus, which means 'keeping within measure'." In simple words, modesty is the quality of not drawing attention to oneself and being humble. It often refers to how people dress and behave in ways that don't show off or bring excessive attention.   Modesty throughout the world There is a common consensus on human nature that stipulates covering the private parts of the body. This convention cuts across cultures, religions, and societies as it refers to something deeply embedded within man. The instincts are closely related to the concept of innate disposition (fitrah), which refers to the natural instincts guided towards dignity and self-respect by which man lives. In whichever civilization, at whatever time in history, people covered themselves using clothing or coverings, no...

Idol Worship and Innate Fitrah

Human nature, or fitrah, is inherently designed with two core elements: worship and imitation. These aspects are deeply ingrained in human psychology and significantly influence how we form our identities, make decisions, and ultimately live our lives. Understanding how these elements shape our behaviour is crucial, particularly from an Islamic perspective, which emphasises the role of divine guidance in shaping a morally sound existence. When we think of "idol worship," many might picture people bowing before statues or images of deities in traditional religious practices. However, in today’s modern world, idol worship takes on a much broader and more subtle form. Idol worship is not limited to literal statues or religious icons; it also manifests as the obsessive admiration and emulation of celebrities, athletes, politicians, and other public figures. This modern form of idol worship occurs when individuals elevate certain figures to an almost divine status, admiring their ...

What moves a man

In the intricate dance of human motivation, we often seek the pulse that drives us—whether it be the call of a leader or the allure of desire. These forces may beckon us momentarily, but their grip is tenuous, subject to the whims of reason and the constraints of necessity. A man, swayed by a leader's command, might follow until his reason intervenes. Similarly, desire can be a powerful flame, burning bright until the chill of necessity snuffs it out. Necessity, with its cold hand, often surpasses the warmth of desire, shifting our allegiance and altering our path. When a leader falls from grace or necessity demands a change, our loyalty shifts like the sands of time. Yet, beneath this shifting landscape, a deeper truth whispers through the corridors of the soul: what, then, truly guides the heart? If not desire, nor the influence of a leader, what remains? The answer unfurls like a rose in the dawn—love. Love, in its most profound form, is the compass that directs the soul, heart,...

The false prophet disorder

Why do people claim prophethood? The purpose will be to look at prophethood claimants and try to figure out their motives behind it. We will consider two approaches. In the first approach, we will not doubt their intentions while seeking the purpose behind it. Let's unveil what we are investigating in the first place. Before we go ahead, this paper is written with a firm perspective that prophethood is true and prophets do exist. The purpose of this paper is to not deny prophethood but rather fake claimants of the same. For now, we will assume prophets exist, (we will establish prophethood in another paper) yet people who claim to be prophets are lying. They are claiming to be something they are not. I would like to put more emphasis on this statement. Claiming to be something they are not. What does that do to a person? How common is it? Why would one do it? Psychologically this has existed for the longest time. One of the earliest documented cases was reported by French psychia...

Education and housewife: Have women been lied to?

In the last few decades, women have progressed significantly in every sector; education has risen and is surpassing that of men; technology has changed domestic appliances, freeing women from backbreaking work. In turn, the bargaining position of women has increased inside the house due to the available opportunities outside the house. But are they happy? Considering the shift of power from men to women in the past few decades, holding everything else equal, it's been seen that the shift in women's well-being has fallen both absolutely and relatively compared to men. Blanchflower and Oswald (2004) have studied the trends of happiness and, over the period, have noted that women's happiness has been negative over the years.¹ Akerlof, Yellen, and Katz (1996) “argue that sexual freedom offered by the birth control pill benefited men by increasing the pressure on women to have sex outside of marriage and reducing their bargaining power over a shotgun marriage in the face of an u...

Fascism is a deep rooted insecurity | A Psychoanalysis

Fascism is a  far-right ,  authoritarian ,  ultranationalist  political ideology and movement, characterized by a  dictatorial  leader, centralized  autocracy ,  militarism , forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural  social hierarchy , subordination of  individual interests  for the perceived good of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy. Insecurity:- uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence. A seemingly easy-to-understand concept yet having psychological roots that are extremely easy to overlook. In this article, we will try to understand how individual insecurities are capitalized upon by fascist ideologies and developed to group insecurities for personal gain. However, there is much we need to understand before we directly address this issue. First thing of which will be the origin of insecurity. What exactly is insecurity to begin with and why has the use of t...
